Ms. Varnell’s daily practice consists of criminal defense in Hamilton County General Sessions Court and Criminal Court, family law in Circuit and Chancery Court in Hamilton and Bradley County, criminal and civil cases in the District Court of the Eastern District and Middle District of Tennessee, and criminal and civil cases in State and Superior Courts in Georgia and in the Northern District of Georgia. Ms. Varnell also represents law enforcement officers through their union representatives including the Fraternal Order of Police and the Police Benevolent Association.

Ms. Varnell represents individuals involved in divorce actions, child custody modifications, adoptions, orders of protection, and restraining orders.

Personal

Ms. Varnell grew up in Chattanooga and married her long-time childhood friend, Adam. They currently live in Hixson with their dogs, Toby and Scout.

Professional Involvement
Ms. Varnell is a graduate of Leadership Chattanooga Class of 2015, and was the Campaign Manager for Hamilton County General Sessions Court Judge Christin Mahn Sell’s reelection campaign in 2014. She is a graduate of the TACDL Trial College Class of 2016.
Education
Janie Parks Varnell, a Chattanooga native, holds a B.A. in Political Science and Criminal Justice, cum laude, from Auburn University. She received her J.D. from Atlanta’s John Marshall Law School in May 2012.
