RESTORATION OF RIGHTS OF CITIZENSHIP
In Tennessee, if you have been convicted of a felony and deprived of your rights of citizenship, you may petition the Circuit Court in the county in which you live or in which you were convicted to restore your rights of citizenship after the expiration of your sentence. You have the burden of showing by satisfactory proof that since your original conviction, you have the character of honesty, respectability and veracity and “is generally esteemed as such by the petitioner’s neighbors.” Tennessee law requires that you give notice to the DA in the county in which you filed the petition as well as the county in which you were convicted. You must also notify the United States Attorney and they have the right to object if they so choose.
