Janie Parks Varnell
Janie Parks Varnell, a Chattanooga native, received her J.D. from Atlanta's
John Marshall Law School in May 2012. She holds a B.A. in Political Science
and Criminal Justice,
cum laude, from Auburn University.
During law school, Ms. Varnell clerked for Davis & Hoss, PC assisting
Attorneys Lee Davis and Bryan Hoss with two capital murder cases and two
Federal District Court cases involving the defense of Chattanooga Police Officers.
After law school, Ms. Varnell, began working as an associate at another
local law office. Her work focused on a federal drug conspiracy case involving
the overprescribing of pain medication.
In 2014 she joined the office of Davis & Hoss, PC.
Her daily practice consists of criminal defense in Hamilton County General
Sessions Court and Criminal Court, family law in Circuit and Chancery
Court in Hamilton and Bradley Count, criminal and civil cases in the District
Court of the Eastern District and Middle District of Tennessee. Ms. Varnell
also represents law enforcement officers through their union representatives
including the Fraternal Order of Police and the Police Benevolent Association.”
Ms. Varnell also represents individuals involved in divorce actions, child
custody modifications, adoptions, orders of protection, and restraining orders.
Ms. Varnell is a member of the Tennessee and Chattanooga Bar Associations,
the Tennessee Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (TACDL), and the
Robert Brock Cooper Inns of Court.
Ms. Varnell is a graduate of Leadership Chattanooga Class of 2015, and
was the Campaign Manager for Hamilton County General Sessions Court Judge
Christin Mahn Sell’s reelection campaign in 2014. She is a graduate
of the TACDL Trial College Class of 2016.
Ms. Varnell is a member of the Hamilton County Drug Court team out of Division
II of the Hamilton County Criminal Court presided over by the Honorable
Judge Tom Greenholtz. She works daily with felony-offending individuals
who are battling drug addiction and participating in an alternative sentencing program.
Ms. Varnell grew up in Chattanooga, and married her long-time childhood
friend, Adam. The currently live in Hixson with their dogs, Maggie and Toby.
